God is showering his blessings on Shiloh in a mighty way. Through prayer, supplication and God’s unwavering grace and mercy we have seen our membership grow! In 1991 we had fewer than 100 members; today we have over 2000. Shiloh has not only grown in numbers, but in ministries that provide for the spiritual and physical growth of all its members. We have added ministries such as Men Standing for Christ, Women of the Word, Praise Dance, Health & Wellness and Financial Planinng. We have expanded the Foreign Mission and organized the Urban Partnership and Community Development Center. The growth in membership and ministries would not have been possible without a clearly defined and God ordained vision.
The Bible’s definition of “vision” is: Spiritual understanding or a prophetic revelation from the Word of God. In 1999, the Word came from God that the plans He had for Shiloh could not be fulfilled in our current location. We were given a vision to move from our current location to a new site that would facilitate our continued growth, better accommodate our members and allow us to carry out our primary purpose to save souls and teach God’s people His will and purpose for their lives.
Over the last several years we have witnessed God’s awesome power in our efforts to carry out that vision. He blessed us with just the right amount of land when it appeared that there was no land available. He sent the right resources to carry out every aspect of the project, although it sometimes seemed like we did not know which way to turn. He removed every obstacle (and there were many) that was placed in our path. It is now time for us to move to the next level in fulfilling this vision. In order to carry out the vision we must “Become the Vision”. The road ahead is difficult and may sometimes seem impossible. We have learned that what is impossible for man is an opportunity for God.
When given the task to rebuild the wall of Jerusalem, Nehemiah called a special meeting and said to the Jewish leaders:
"Then I told them of the hand of my God which was good upon me: as also the king’s words that he had spoken to me. And they said, let us rise up and build. So they strengthened their hands for this good work." - Nehemiah 2:18
|
Nehemiah wanted the leaders to know that God not only ordained their mission to build, but He would also be with them in this endeavor. The people responded with excitement. God said that if He is for us, He is more than the world against us. Knowing this we should be confident and excited about the wonders God is performing in this ministry and in our lives. It is time for us to rise up and build; it is time for us to “Become the Vision”.
In order to “Become the Vision” we must:
- Have faith that this work is ordained by God
- Trust in the Lord to bring it to pass
- Walk by faith and not by sight
- Believe in the leadership of this ministry
- Work together in unity
- Support the vision with our resources: Time, Talents and Tithes

Purpose of the Capital Appeal
Based upon the recommendation by the Planning Committee and approval by the Board, we will conduct a three year Capital Appeal to facilitate financing for the relocation. The Capital Appeal will replace our Building Fund Drive that was implemented in 1999.
Financial Goal of the Capital Appeal
Our goal is to secure gifts and three-year pledges totaling $1.5 million to $2.5 million or more, to support the estimated $6 million relocation project of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church to a new facility at 501 Lawson Ave. The more money we receive, the more building we will be able to construct.
The relocation project is central to our vision. It will allow us to expand our ministries, provide better accommodations for our members, and enhance our opportunity to serve, learn, fellowship and grow. The proposed new facility will include:
- Sanctuary to accommodate 1,000 members
- Parking lot to accommodate approximately 250 automobiles with additional street parking available
- Offices, meeting and classroom space for all current ministries and Christian Education needs
- Future expansion for Urban Partnership and Community Development Center programs
- Choir stand for 62 choir members
- Mission station for On-site Feeding Program
- Formal dining room to seat 350
A Vision Unfolds
Centuries ago, the Israelites brought gifts for the construction of the temple in Jerusalem. King David expressed his thanks to God at the response of the people, “Now, therefore, our God, we thank thee, and praise thy glorious name.” (1 Chronicles 29:13) David saw this project as an awesome opportunity and thanked God that he had a part in the planning and funding of the magnificent temple!
Since 1967, Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church has become deeply rooted in Saint Paul and the surrounding communities as it actively spreads the gospel of Jesus Christ. At this time, the Lord is giving each of us the opportunity to be a part of the planning and funding of the building of our new church home.
We are relocating our church building, not because our current site is a bad site; rather, because our current site is a small site. As we walk through this open door of opportunity to pay for our new facility, possibilities for ministering to the needs of our community will continue to open before us.
Going back once again to King David, we marvel at how he intended the entire project raising funds and the actual construction to be for the praise of God’s glorious name. In the same way as we seek to build our new church, we do so to praise God. In the new church, God’s Word will be proclaimed and taught to even more people. The Holy Spirit will inspire even more hearts. More people will be moved to place their faith in Jesus, desire to worship Him and bring forth their offerings for the sharing of the gospel with even more people worldwide. All this will bring glory to God’s powerful name.
As we enter this exciting phase in the life of our congregation, may we do so with confidence and trust in the Lord. This proposed project is ambitious and rightly so because Jesus Christ is worthy of our best. "Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, If I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it." (Malachi 3:10). Together with an eye to the past, gratefulness for the present and confidence for the future, we proceed as a family of Christ to “Become the Vision” to the glory of God.
Opportunity for Growth to Serve our Community
This is an exciting time in the life of Shiloh. An open door of opportunity has been set before us in the building of our new church home at 501 Lawson Avenue West.
We anticipate being able to continue to work, dream and mature as a community of faith in the name of Christ Jesus for many years to come and not to be held back because of lack of space to do what we believe we are called to do.
This first step, that of building the new church, must be an effort of the entire congregation. Every gift in support of the fulfillment of our vision will be valued and is important. As we each stretch to offer a gift that is truly sacrificial, the “opportunity door” that is before us will open wide.
