The Battle is the Lord’s
I Samuel 17:45, 47
“Then said David to the Philistine, Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to thee in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou hast defied. And all this assembly shall know that the Lord saveth not with sword and spear: for the battle is the Lord's, and he will give you into our hands.”
As Christians we need to learn to trust God when facing difficulty enemies. This means trusting the Lord’s strategy as well as trusting that He will give us the weapons we need to win the battle. Goliath came out to battle in his own name. He spoke from the arrogance of the flesh. He depended upon his own size and strength to win the battle. David spoke from the faith in God. Goliath had insulted God and His people.
David came to battle in the name of the Lord. He recognized that God’s honor was at stake. This battle and war was to set the record straight. “The Battle is the Lord’s.” Goliath was not fighting against David, he was defying God. Since the battle belongs to the Lord, He would give Goliath into David’s hands.
The enemy always has a champion that they depend on to fight for them. Someone who is strong and tough. But the God we serve has never lost a battle. Keep the faith and look to the Lord from whence cometh our help. “The Battle is the Lord’s!”
